If you were like me when you were trying to get pregnant or when you had your infant you wanted to do your research, but you found yourself in a whole different world. Yes ladies it is a whole different world and language and it can be completely overwhelming also scare any new mom more than what they already are! When I was reading all of these acronyms for the first time I felt I was in school all over again. I promise I will keep the mommy lingo to a minimum. Here are some of the common ones to help you navigate other mommy boards. I'll put the ones I use in red.
AC - Assisted conception
AI - Artificial insemination
AIO - All-in-one; this means you don't need a separate cover over the diaper, as in a disposable diaper
BBT - Basal body temperature
BC - Birth control
BD - Baby dancing (sex for conception) this one was funny to me why don't they just say sex???
BF - Breastfeeding
CC - Controlled crying; a method of sleep training for infants
CD - Cloth diaper
CIO - Cry it out; a method of sleep training for infants
CM - Cervical mucus
CVSs - Chorionic villus sampling; a form of prenatal diagnosis to determine chromosomal or genetic disorders
DA - Dairy allergy
DI - Donor insemination
EBF - Exclusively breastfeeding
EBM - Expressed breast milk
EDD - Estimated date of delivery (due date)
EN - Extended nursing
EP - Ectopic pregnancy
FF - Formula feeding
FTM - First time mom
GD - Gestational diabetes
GF - Gluten-free
HPT - Home pregnancy test
IUI - Intrauterine insemination
IVF - In vitro fertilization
LO - Little one
MC - Miscarriage
MIL - Mother-in-law
MS - Morning sickness
NIP - Nursing in public
NTNP - Not trying/not preventing
O - Ovulation
OH - Other half
OPK - Ovulation predictor test kit
OWT - Old wives tale
PG - Pregnant
SAHM - Stay at home mom
SB - Still birth
TTC - Trying to conceive
US - Ultrasound
VBAC - Vaginal birth after cesarean
WAHM - Work at home mom
WM - Working mom
